Friendship

Friendship is the human virtue defined as a feeling that represents great affection, sympathy or appreciation. In jiu-jitsu, this feeling begins to develop through the teachings of the “sensei”, it is initially observed in the “Rei” (gesture of greeting). The bonds of friendship become closer within the dojos through another great teaching, Jita Kyoei - I help you, you help me and we prosper together. This value is directly related to the exercise of trust, dedication and gratitude, present in the relationships between senseis, students and relatives. From friendship comes loyalty.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Our objective is to train individuals centered on solid values. We believe that, through training, we can form not just athletes, but individuals with strong character and upright principles.

Sincerity - Honesty

Quality of character of the honest person. It's looking for the truth and refrain from pretense or hypocrisy.

In the dojos, sincerity is observed in the first dialogues between senseis, students and family members. The true expression of feelings reflects frankness in teachings and strengthens the trust of a relationship that can last for a long time.
Learning to fall safely and take down with purity are lessons that help understand the sincere spirit for practicing jiu-jitsu. The student will find the path, when he becomes morally irreproachable and habitually decent in his daily actions inside and outside the dojo. Good company and good examples will provide continuity and the direction of sincerity.

Honor

Human behavior of actions worthy and admirable. Philosophy for life

In the “dojo”, this value lives in every learning experience and every achievement. Students receive their first belt from their sensei, a badge of honor, symbolically the link that unites the practitioner, jiu-jitsu, the school and the sensei. Living within the precepts of jiu-jitsu, without personifying personal advantages, is a high honor. The expression "men of honor" may refer to those worthy of trust, who keep their promises or words, honoring your actions. It will be up to practitioners to best interpret this moral value, before making each decision in their daily lives.

Kindness - Courtesy - Politeness

Posture or behavior gentle and civility.

In dojo, the perception of this special human condition is transmitted through the gentle use of expressions from sensei to their students, enriching interpersonal relationships with each teaching. Exercising this value daily is proposing to be the same way you should be on the outside, inspiring kindness and gratitude. The beauty of small gestures will be present in the subtlety of good intentions and the nobility of education in each movement, from entry to exit, wherever it may be, from the beginning to the end. The practitioner must be aware of his attitudes and aware of the results that comes from them.

Courage

Fight for what you believe is fair. Strong morale in the face of danger and risks. Firmness
of spirit to face difficult situations.

Within the dojos, this value is transmitted by the sensei to their students from the first steps and intensifies as they throughout the entire trajectory. It is the student's ability to act despite fear, intimidation or injustice, being able to motivate themselves to go further, between reason and aprehension. In jiu-jitsu, as in life, the courageous face challenges without giving up. Overcoming adversities and fighting with principles encourage us to move forward in life, especially in most defiant moments.

Discipline - Self control

Ability to control or dominate your impulses. Expression of emotional balance in the face of criticism or provocation.

In the dojo, this value will be developed during learning. Little by little, the sensei will lead the practitioner to observe the relevant technical and physical developments, as well as the philosophical and moral improvement which, as a whole, will stimulate assertiveness in his actions and relations. A word or an attitude must be given with wisdom, parsimony and coherence.

Modesty

Absence of vanity or pretension in relation to one's own worth, achievements and successes.

In the dojo, this value will be transmitted by the sensei and "sempai" (senior student) to the "kohai" (beginning student), mainly through the principle of "Jita Kyoei" (mutually prospering). Cultivating the benefit of a community to the detriment of personal benefit allows you to understand that the knowledge acquired is not a weapon in your favor, but a path to be shared. Moderating the actions learned in the dojo in any environment is to avoid attracting attention to your actions, which in time will naturally reflect the energy and balance for the needs of each person.

Respect

Act or effect of respecting others and oneself. Consideration, deference, reverence.

The permanent and harmonious practice of this value will guarantee the dojo an ethical, social and moral structure, maintaining a peaceful, healthy and safe environment in compliance of their role in the community. The sensei will lead students to improve their interpersonal relationships, through coexistence and differences, whether due to age, gender, religion or social class. It is easy to walk and participate in achievements supported by similarities, but the challenge of thriving under the understandingment of differences. In practice, respect is to treat someone the same way you would like to be treated given their capabilities and limitations. Without respect there is no trust.

Gratitude

Quality of someone who is grateful. Recognition of a person by someone who provided them with a benefit or assistance.

This value will be observed and developed in the dojo from the first class. The student will be guided to express the word "Hai" (yes) during the understanding of the transferred knowledge and "Arigato" (thank you), followed by "Rei" (greeting) at the conclusion of the learning process.
Such gestures will enhance the union with the sensei and the relationship with the team, establishing familiary and fraternal trust among practitioners. This way, every little detail will have a reason to be special, keeping the energy of the room positive. Furthermore, behavioral benefits may be noticed in homes by parents of practitioners, where it is common nowadays to live with their children's ingratitude. In this way, families and dojo must join forces to encourage the practice of gratitude, which renews the meaning of life and confirms the purpose of being human.

Loyalty

Consideration of the precepts that concern honor, decency and honesty, fidelity to commitments made.

From the first moment an individual decides to acquire Jiu-Jitsu knowledge, they will receive special care and extreme loyalty from their sensei. Progressively, the secrets of physical and moral practice will be revealed. This value is very important in the martial arts environment, but it is common to be forgotten nowadays, where fluidity and liquidity, adjectives of haste and anxiety, give a superficial tone to relationships. Having someone by your side who you can trust, who does not fail in their commitments and who demonstrates responsibility for the principles of teaching transfer is the most encouraged and safe path. Prospering with your team and your sensei, being an active agent in this process, will record the best pages of your history and the history of your dojo.
